Slicing a bagel with a bread knife and your bare hand is one of the more reliable ways to end up in an urgent care waiting room. The bagel rolls, the blade slips, and your palm is directly in its path.
This holder takes your hand out of the equation. Drop the bagel into the cradle, run the knife down the guide groove, and you get two even halves with your fingers nowhere near the blade.
Why it works
The groove does the aiming. A channel cut into the body guides the blade straight down, so you get halves of matching thickness instead of one thick side and one that falls apart in the toaster.
The bagel cannot roll. Tapered walls hold it upright under pressure, which is the whole problem with cutting a bagel flat on a board.
The base stays planted. A non-slip rubber pad grips the counter, so the holder does not travel while you saw.
